About Dr. Towery

Derek S. Towery, M.D.

Dr. Towery was born and raised in Mayfield, Kentucky, and attended Murray State University where he received his B.S. degree in Chemistry in 1985.  Following graduation he moved to St. Louis, Missouri, and worked for 2 years as a research chemist for Monsanto Company.  He graduated from Saint Louis University School of Medicine in 1992 where he was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and named a Robert H. Felix award recipient.

After an internship in internal medicine at Saint Louis University Hospital, Dr. Towery received dermatology training at Oklahoma University.  He completed his residency in June 1997 and established his practice in Joplin in July 1997.  He is board certified in dermatology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and the Missouri State Medical Association.

Dr. Towery volunteers at Life Choices Medical Clinic and the Community Clinic of Joplin,  He enjoys mission work and has been to Thailand annually for several years with teams from Forest Park Baptist Church of Joplin conducting mobile medical clinics in the rural villages of Thailand.  He enjoys time with his family, playing golf, and college sports (especially Kentucky Wildcat basketball!)
